GUIDE INFORMATION

The ranch has an outstanding calibre of licensed guides.  They come from varied backgrounds and their expertise is matched to each trip.  You will be impressed with their abilities to communicate with guests from every walk of life and level of outdoor skill.  Most important, they know how to judge situations, and assess and determine the abilities and limits of the guests.  Every trip must be educational, safe and enjoyable.

RESTRICTIONS
Not Applicable
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Requirements: Sleeping bag, a small daypack, biodegradable soap/shampoo (camp based only), toque and headband (camp based only), flashlight, batteries (camp based only), warm sleeping bag to 10 below Celsius (camp based only), towel/face cloth (camp based only), empty pillowcase (camp based only).

Comments:

Hikers can choose between Level I, II or III.  The more seasoned hiker can choose an adventure that involves steeper terrain and takes them through a series of alpine camps.  Access in and out of the camp is a 3-9 hour day covering 5-20 km, with elevation changes up to 1000 meters over uneven terrain.  Daily itineraries vary according to the level of the trip and the interests of the group.

5% Wilderness Stewardship Contribution Surcharge applies to all tours.

TRANSPORTATION

Trips originate and end at the ranch, near Gold Bridge, BC.  During the summer season take Highway 99 from Vancouver to Whistler and then Pemberton. Take the Hurley Pass Forestry Road to the ranch. Full directions provided upon reservation.

Van transfer from Vancouver to the ranch can be added for additional cost.

WEATHER

This 5,000 square km guide territory lies within a transition zone between the Coast Mountains and the Chilcotin Plateau.  This favoured position produces a "rainshadow".  This means sunny skies and a dry bug-free environment.

REGION
Vancouver, Whistler, and Chilcotin
PROVIDED EQUIPMENT

Horses/tack and the use of ancillary equipment to transport gear, use of the ranch facilities.

SUGGESTED CLOTHING

Hat with brim, bandana, rain pants and jacket, warm jacket (down or wool), comfortable hiking pants/shorts, slippers or indoor shoes for ranch, hiking boots with good ankle support, 2 pairs of gloves, one light, one insulated, 1 pair of socks per day, personal toiletries and clothing, long johns (camp based only), rubber boots or gum boots (camp based only), toque or headband (camp based only).  Bring at least two changes of clothes in case you get wet. If the weather turns bad, the toque is for night during camp based adventures and the headband is for daytime.  If your hiking boots are new, make sure you break them in before the trip.

SUGGESTED ITEMS

Camera, binoculars, daypack, sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle, fishing gear.

ACCOMMODATIONS

On these backcountry camp tours the many camps offer something for everyone. Whether you're interested in getting just a "taste" of the wilderness camping experience and would like to have some of the camp luxuries, such as a warm-water shower or a cabin to sleep in, or whether you want to have a true backcountry, camping, "roughing it" experience, we have it all and everything in-between.

Some of our camps are equipped with cookhouses, cabins with sleeping areas in the loft, and 10x12' tent cabins (tents with a permanent wooden structure and raised, wooden flooring, foamies to sleep on, and wood-burning heater) to sleep in, while other camps only have the tent cabins but no cabins or cookhouses, and other camps offer a true "camping" experience with 10x12' wall tents on the ground set up in the alpine meadows.
