Visit a remote wilderness lodge on the Athabasca River in central Alberta

Explore the mighty Athabasca River and visit one of Albeta's most remote backcountry wilderness lodges on this tour in central Alberta. Accessible only by jet boat, your adventure begins in the town of Athabasca when you board one of the Jet Drive River Boats for a pleasurable 5 hour, 250 km ride down the majestic Athabasca River. Every bend of the river offers you some amazing sights of untouched scenery that holds in its beauty abundant amounts of wildlife including Elk, Moose, Deer, Wolves, Bear, River Otter as well as numerous species of waterfowl and birds of prey providing endless photographic opportunities.

After a day on the river you arrive at the lodge situated in the Grand Rapids Wildlands Provincial Park where rustic well maintained log cabins await you and nearby (15 min boat ride and a 2 to 4 km hike depending on river conditions) lay the historic Grand Rapids and Grand Rapids Island. This is where some of the worlds largest known concretions have formed a natural dam that has withstood eons of forces to create these class 6 rapids {un-navigable} and a truly unique and mystifying  spectacle for one to behold.

From the crystal calm, to the roaring song of the Grand Rapids; every bend of the river offers its own beauty, in an ever changing landscape of wildlife and vegetation.  High above the water, the banks are steeped in history.  Once a major route to the north for fur traders, First Nations' People, settlers and gold miners, travel along the Athabasca still reveals remains of past settlements and fur trading posts. Explore the remains of old buildings and other remnants and relive some of Alberta's great history through them. Whether an artist, or paleontologist, photographer or naturalist, geologist or history buff, or an all around outdoor enthusiast, this back country lodge holds an adventure for everyone, history waiting to be discovered, memories to unfold.

The lodge and the Grand Rapids are situated within the boundaries of the Grand Rapids Wildlands Provincial Park.  As such, we encourage you to photograph any rocks, fossils, plants, animals, and other artifacts of interest to you, as a tangible souvenir of your visit, leaving them in their original location.  This ensures that our natural history may be passed on and rediscovered by future generations.  In all areas, we encourage you as much as possible to leave the park in it's natural state, leaving as little evidence of our visit as possible.  Take only photographs, leave only footprints...
