Explore some of the best hiking trails the Canadian Rockies have to offer on these hiking tours from a mountain retreat. Your lodge and cabins are located in close proximity to Kootenay National Park, Banff National Park and Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park; offering some of the finest and most spectacular alpine walking and hiking in the world.  There are miles of world class wilderness hiking trails, and it's easy for you to discover for yourself the wonderful scenery and unspoiled nature that are part of this area. The trails range in ability from very easy strolls, to short day hikes, to full day hiking.

Maximize your outdoor experience while taking pictures of breathtaking scenery of the majestic Canadian Rocky Mountains amongst tranquil alpine meadows, secluded forests and fragrant wildflowers.  This is an excellent area to view and find signs of birds and animals unique to the Canadian Rockies. Abundant wildlife near the cabins include deer, moose, elk, coyote, rabbits, grouse, squirrels, chipmunks, pine martens and the noisy whiskeyjack. The lucky few may even catch a glimpse of an elusive mountain lion and nearby Kootenay National Park is a great place to see and photograph black bears. 

Besides hiking, these packages can also include whitewater rafting and mountain biking. The crystal clear waters of the Kootenay River and other neighbouring rivers offers world class rafting for persons of all ages, experience, skill level or physical condition. The excitement of thrilling rapids, hoodoos, wildlife, waterfalls, scenic gorges and pitted limestone cliffs are a few of the fascinating sights waiting for you to experience.  Clean air, glacier-fed lakes and rivers are all part of the beauty and serenity of your mountain biking adventure and the biking trails in the area are second to none.

The Nature Trek package offers an opportunity to experience remote wilderness hiking for all nature lovers, without losing too much time from your holiday schedule. It incorporates unique nature programs alongside spectacular scenery, exciting and informative guided hikes, and friendly camaraderie in a remote, natural setting. During the days, you will hike up to a lofty mountain ridge with spectacular views of mountain tops for 360º, as well as hike up an exciting trail of river crossings and varied terrain to an alpine lake surrounded by rock wall cliffs. The evenings will afford you opportunities to relax at our remote wilderness lodge, enjoying optional campfire gatherings with some music and stories, or soaking in our outdoor, wood-fired, hot tub with a mountain-view. Whether you have seen the Rockies before, or are here for the first time, this package is a great stopover that can immerse you deeper into the grandeur of the mountains, the beauty of nature, and the stories of the land.

The Brush With Nature package offers adventurous traveler, new to the area, or not, some exciting and varied wilderness experiences, in truly remote, wilderness settings. You will be mountain biking along ridges overlooking the Kootenay and Cross River valleys; river raft some exciting stretches of whitewater on one of the nearby rivers ranging from grade 1 to 4; and hike up to a lofty mountain ridge with spectacular views of peaks all around, including Mt. Assiniboine, the sixth highest mountain in the rockies; and all with the opportunity to learn a bit about the history, geology, wildlife, and culture of the area along the way.

Trips originate and end in Kootenay National Park, a half hour from the world famous Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia, and one hour from Banff and Lake Louise, Alberta.

ACCOMMODATIONS

 The main building is a spacious and clean mountain lodge with kitchen and bathroom facilities, pure mountain water, log-furnished living room, two large decks, outdoor wood-fired hot tub, and a cozy view of the mountains across the Kootenay River valley.

The private cabins are nestled amidst the trees around a picturesque clearing south of the main lodge. All are within a 10-60 second walk from the lodge, and are decorated in various themes that reflect their wilderness setting. Each contain a queen-sized log bed, a twin bed, a three-piece bathroom, and a cozy-corner fireplace. The whole wilderness retreat is a self-sufficient, eco-sensitive facility, powered by solar and hydro energy. It was developed with our environmental responsibility policy in mind, which works to ensure a thriving nature and wildlife, and a more pure enjoyment of the beautiful wilderness around us.

CANCELLATION POLICY & DETAILS
Deposit - $150.00 CAD upon registration; balance due 30 days prior to your the starting date. Cancel - at least 60 days prior to your starting date: full refund less deposit - 60-30 days prior: 50% refund, less deposit - 29 days, or less, prior: no refund or deposit - Alternatively, if a last minute cancellation is required, funds can also be credited towards another tour package within one year.

3 day tour, available early June - late September

Day 1

Your arrival day the mountain retreat. A hot evening meal will be served over some friendly introductions before settling in to a relaxing night around an optional campfire or in your cabin.

Day 2

After a hearty breakfast, and a precautionary safety talk including bear safety, we spend today out on a day hike that brings us high above the valley floor in White Man Pass, to a secluded unnamed lake, seldom traveled to. Along the way, you will experience spectacular views from lofty ridges above tree line and varied terrain, including marshy wetlands, scree slopes, and river beds. All areas could provide a variety of vegetation and possible wildlife sightings. We return back to the lodge for another relaxing night around the cabins, in the hot tub, or around an optional campfire with stories and music.

Day 3

Today is your checkout day, but we make the most of it by taking you up on a half-day hike to a lofty mountain ridge beneath the towering Tangle Peak. The walk will be slow and satisfying, as the view from the top will be nothing less than breathtaking. Mountain peaks will abound all around you, including the sixth highest mountain in the Rockies, Mt. Assiniboine. These ridges are often visited by mountain goats, deer, and Golden Eagles and who knows what other surprises could add to this experience on this very secluded trail. After our descent back to the lodge and one last meal together, we will part ways until next time.

4 day tour, available mid June - mid September

Day 1

Your arrival day into the lodge. A hot evening meal will be served over some friendly introductions before settling in to a relaxing night at the cabins.

Day 2

After a hearty breakfast, we spend today out on the mountain bikes exploring the valleys and ridges around the Kootenay and Cross rivers. We will enjoy spectacular views overlooking the river valleys along the way, as well as some breaks along the rivers to take in the natural gems such as waterfalls, plants and wildflowers, and a natural bridge.

Day 3

Bright and early we rise for breakfast then set out for a day-long rafting trip down one of the nearby raging rivers. Depending much on the group and time of year, we can offer waters ranging from grade 1 to 4, and lunch will be served on the river. All trips will be a safe and enjoyable rafting experience including mountain scenery and getting wet!

Day 4

Today is your checkout day, but we make the most of it by taking you up on a half-day hike to a lofty mountain ridge beneath the towering Tangle Peak.
