Enjoy a traditional east coast activity on this clam hunt and mackerel fishing tour in PEI. Your PEI bar clamming adventure begins when you leave the historic fishing village of Souris, PEI. The first part of the tour gives you an educational and hands-on experience on how lobster, crab and mussels make it from the beautiful blue waters to the kitchen table. You will learn how some of PEI's shellfish are caught, sorted and prepared.
The next part of the clamming adventure takes you to the Fortune Reef where we visit a huge herd of seals that have inhabited the area for many generations. There are usually hundreds of harbour seals that swim out to the boat to say hello and put on a little show each visit.
The third part of the tour is a favorite among the kids - you put on the wetsuits, masks and snorkels and take a short boat ride into the Rollo Bay beach flats. After you get into the water you hunt for these huge clams (4-8 inches long) that bury themselves under the sand. Once the feast has been caught you head back to the boat for an authentic PEI cookout. Seafood for the adults and hot dogs for the kids.
Then after a short boat ride back across the Colville bay to the mackerel ground, you finish up with some deep sea fishing. This is always a huge hit with kids and adults alike. The guides had one child catch 60 mackerel in one afternoon alone!
