Overnight whitewater rafting expeditions are a great way to experience whitewater rafting in the wilderness of the northern Rockies. Near the town of Grande Cache, adjacent to the Willmore Wilderness Park, you will find one of the last unknown spots in the Rocky Mountains for whitewater rafting. These expedition style trips take you on a whitewater rafting journey down the Kakwa River.
The Kakwa River (Class III-IV+) is a medium volume, lake fed river that is only run during high water in June and July. A classic backcountry adventure with big class 3/4 water, remote wilderness and riverside camping. It’s a gentle start and even beginners get time to learn the strokes, but then it all goes crazy! You won’t know whether to laugh or scream as we hit the rapids hard, get pounded with water and dig in! A new challenge awaits around every corner and then, wet and happy, it’s time to hit the beach. Soon, cozy and warm, you’ll dig into freshly-prepared meals and the join in the buzz around the fire. And as the river rumbles on, you’ll drift off to dreams of the next big wave... because tomorrow the river awaits.
