Log cabin building course in the Chilcotin Mountains of BC

Join your instructors at a ranch in the Chilcotin Mountains of British Columbia for an intense one-week course on log cabin building. Here you’ll learn the fundamentals to build your own log cabin onsite, suited to any location of your choice. Your instructors will teach you how to build it, hand pick each log, and custom fit each log into your personally designed cabin. In just one week, you’ll learn how to select trees in the forest, horse log the trees to your site, cut the basic saddle notch, deal with challenging logs, choose from different roof options, install windows and doors and allow for settle up.

No previous construction or carpentry background is needed. Your instructor will teach all the periphery skills needed like power saw safety, maintains and sharpening, horse logging techniques, and axe use.

The overall objective of this program is to provide participants with a solid base of combined knowledge and practical skills to build their own log cabin. The one week program is intense, the days tend to be long
and the work is hard. The approach is very practical, hands on and so the progress is quick and rewarding.

This program is for those wanting to build their own log cabin in the wilderness and teaches the fundamentals with minimal equipment and materials. By using materials at hand, you’ll learn how to construct a durable four-season cabin, build a solid foundation, incorporate bear-proof walls and build a roof that can handle the snow load. The log cabin building program is comprehensive and designed to teach the skills and techniques necessary for building a horizontal log cabin or vertical log cabin or 12’ x 16’ A-frame cabin.
