Rocky Mountain canoeing expeditions on the Kootenay River in British Columbia

Paddle through the picturesque Canadian Rocky Mountains on these canoeing expeditions on the Kootenay River.  The Kootenay River is superbly scenic. Finding its source high in the Rocky Mountains, the River flows southward to join the main tributary the Vermillion River. As one they flow through a forested valley, where they have carved beautiful gorges through shale and limestone bed rock and glacial deposits left behind by retreating glaciers 8 -10,000 years ago.

British Columbia's Kootenay River is the ideal Rocky Mountain canoe adventure. There are lots of runnable rapids, beautiful scenery, good camping opportunities and easy access. It is home to moose, elk, mule deer, wolves and bear. Kokaneee Salmon shimmer in the waters. Wetland areas provide habitats for a variety of birds and waterfowl. Bald eagles circle overhead.

The Kootenay is a great class I-II run, with excellent mountain scenery, facinating natural features and fun whitewater, suitable for everyone. You paddle SOAR inflatable canoes that are stable, forgiving and fun. Using the Nipika Mountain Resort as your base you will stay the first last and last night at this resort and then spend two nights camping along the river.
