We’ll collect you from your Reykjavik accommodation or a nearby pick up location, and drive into the velvety dark of night in search of the heavenly light show that illuminates the winter night sky.
Part of the charm of the Aurora Borealis in Iceland is its elusiveness and one of the main parts of our tour is the thrill of the chase. The aurora forecast changes daily, so we can’t tell you exactly where we will go. But if luck is with us, before long, we’ll spy the dancing colors of the Northern Lights above one of Iceland’s iconic attractions such as - Þingvellir, Reykjanes or Kirkjufell. Our well-designed mini buses allow us to go to off-the-beaten-track locations in Iceland’s rural heartlands – meaning that we won’t need to worry about light pollution.

The Northern Lights have enchanted sky gazers for millennia and almost every culture that has ever witnessed them has considered them to be of divine origin. They can appear dramatically or subtly spraying vivid colors across the dark sky. Flickering patterns then begin to emerge as the swirling colors create surreal shapes that will leave you breathless.
We now know that the dancing lights are a result of charged particles from the sun hitting Earth’s magnetic field. Green and yellow auroras are the most common, but we also see blue, violet and rose auroras. Red auroras are the least common, however, they happen more in Iceland than anywhere else in the world. Whatever color we see – the Northern Lights are nature’s most unrivaled light show and they never fails to astonish!

Great tour guide

Freeman (unsure of spelling) was a great guide. I wasn't sure what to expect and Freeman was very informative and entertaining. We saw some great lights. Pick and drop off was super smooth. Even though I am used to cold weather, it never hurts to think more layers ... mostly because you spend a lot of time standing still in the dark and cold, looking up at the sky.

Definitely is the best idea for hunting the northern lights. Our tour guide had a lot of experience and knowledge about Auroras. Was really nice and friendly. I recommend 100% the tour specially in the jeep because they can go for different routes and kore darkness. In that way you have more chances to see the northern lights.
Aurora explorer super jeep tour

My wife and I were honeymooning in Iceland and took the Aurora Explorer Super Jeep tour. We had an absolutely wonderful time. Our guide was very knowledgeable and there was an astronomer guide there as well pointing out the constellations. On this trip we saw the northern lights and had a wonderful evening. Based upon our experience with Artic Adventures we enlisted their services for 3 additional tours on our trip. Thanks for a wonderful time!

Our guide Freman, was very knowledgeable and really shown passion the aurora viewing. We managed to get a spectacular view of the lights and he was a massive help with camera settings so we were able to capture the magical moments. Would recommend to anyone who is planning on visiting.
Experienced Guide & Great Tour

We were very glad to go with the super jeep tour which enabled us to go off the main road to a very isolated spot to enhance our chances of seeing the northern lights. Our guide was very experienced and knowledgeable and on our first attempt to see the lights were successful! The added shot of Brennivin and hot cocoa was a nice touch as it was a very cold night.
Bjarni is the best!

We took the tour on February 10 with Bjarni. The sky was covered with clouds and Bjarni went above and beyond to find clear skies for us. He looked at satellite images of the cloud cover and changed his planned route because he thought he would be able to find clear skies in a different direction. We eventually ended up in a vacant plot of land and over the next several hours, watched the northern lights get brighter and brighter. He brought his camera, took several pics of the skies and of us. When the "show" really began, he took a time-lapse video of it. It was 8 below freezing and many of us went into the van for warmth. I believe other guides would have left because of the cold and because it took a couple hours for the lights to really come to life, but Bjarni encouraged us to wait it out and to venture out of the warm bus to watch the beautiful night sky. Getting a hold of the beautiful pictures and video Bjarni took has been challenging (it has been 10 days and I still can't get a copy of that video), but we had a phenomenal experience on our first night in Iceland!

Northern lights minibus tour

We had a great evening with Andreane on our northern lights tour. We were lucky with the forecast and the lights were out in their full glory. We didn’t have to go too far from Reykjavík to get a great view of the lights and stars Andreane was a lovely driver and guide. She was knowledgable in terms of information about the lights and the area but also to help people with their camera settings. Andreane was very patient with everyone that wanted photos and snapped away taking shots for us all that were promptly uploaded by the next day for us to download. I would recommend this tour as it wasn’t as expensive as the jeep tours that are available but we didn’t want to be on a big coach - the minibus of approx 20 people was just right and we stopped at an off road area where only a few passing cars stopped, no other tours.
