Itinerary

Information

Your guide will pick you up at 5.40 PM at the Tromsø Havn Prostneset bus terminal. Our partners advise you to arrive earlier, so that the bus can promptly depart at 6 PM. After that, it‘s just a 35-minute drive to the reindeer camp!

Once you arrive, you‘ll be greeted by the wonderful creatures already waiting for your visit. You‘ll have the chance to feed the reindeer, all 200 of them, straight out of your hand as they swarm around you! After the reindeer are happy and full, you will learn how to use a real lasso (but not on real reindeer).

Following that, you‘ll head inside a candlelit lavvu—a traditional cone-shaped Sami tent. What follows is a delicious dinner, consisting of a delicious cold-smoked salmon starter, an authentic Sami stew called bidos and hot drinks (vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free option is also available). After the meal, gather around the fire with a chocolate cake dessert to enjoy stories about Sami culture and learn about the art of reindeer herding. Your guide will also perform a joik (traditional Sami song).

After the tour is finished, if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights! Even if you don‘t, standing beneath Norway’s dark winter skies is an experience in itself. Once you‘re done, you‘ll board the bus back to Tromsø at 10:30 PM.

There are two entrances. One is by the buses and one is between the Terminal and the Clarion Edge. Tour guides will be where the buses are ready to depart to camp. If you do go to the wrong entrances, walk through the terminal to the other entrance and you will find them there.

  • Look out for pick-up guides who will be wearing blue “Tromsø Arctic Reindeer” jackets.
  • Please arrive with time to spare so we can ensure a prompt departure of 6:00 PM
