Itinerary

Day 1:

The adventure begins! You can check-in at Jokkmokk guesthouse (also known as Åsgård Hostel) no earlier than 15:00 (3 p.m.).If you arrive early, don’t hesitate to visit Ájtte, the Swedish Mountain and Sami Museum.

But don’t be late – you should meet your guides and the rest of the group at the guesthouse at 17:00 (5 p.m.). We’ll get to know each other over a delicious dinner, discuss the itinerary and potential challenges as well as go over and pack up our equipment. This is your last night in a comfy bed for quite some time, so make sure you get a good night’s sleep!

After breakfast, a minibus will take us* to Sitoälven Bridge, which is where our hike starts. We divide the food we need to carry among ourselves and proceed to hike an easy 10 km (6.2 mi) on a bike path. When we reach the eastern shore of Lake Laidaure, we will begin to look for a nice camping spot, set up our tents and enjoy our dinner.

*If you arrive with your own vehicle, you can choose to follow the minibus instead.

First things first, we eat breakfast – keeping up our energy levels while on a long hike is very important! Afterward, we pack up and take off for the first stretch of today’s distance. After 6 km (3.7 mi) on a marked trail through a spruce forest we reach Aktse, an old homestead, where we have our lunch.

We will need all of the fuel we can get because a fairly steep climb – 300 m (985 ft) ascent in just over 1 km (0.6 mi) of hiking distance – up a bare mountain is ahead. We will try to set up our tents above the tree line, but this may change depending on thweather conditions.

As we summit Skierfe, jaw-dropping vistas will open up before our eyes. Expect to glimpse a massive river delta with wild animals grazing nearby, surrounding snow-capped mountains and lush valleysYou’ll take away memories and pictures that will last a lifetime.

Unfortunately, it is time to turn back. But the views on the way back are no less impressive! We will return to Aktse on the same route we used coming in or we may change it up a little. It all depends on what the weather allows. Water availability and wind will determine the location of our campsite, as we pitch our tents, cook dinner and prepare for our last night in the wilderness.

One final campsite breakfast and we take off for the last stretch of our hike. This hike will be a breeze because all the food will be gone and our bags will be significantly lighter. When we return to our starting point, Sitoälven Bridge, we will load our belongings into the minibus and return to Jokkmokk guesthouse. We’ll share our most memorable experiences and photos over a home-cooked dinner and enjoy some well-deserved rest in a comfy bed.

Breakfast, checkout and warm goodbyes are on today’s agenda. If you have some time between checkout and departure from Jokkmokk, make sure you pay local Sámi giftshops a visit. A handmade souvenir will certainly put a smile on the face of your family member or friend.

Please note: We are at the mercy of Mother Nature, so we have the right to adjust the itinerary if we think the weather conditions present safety risks. Summitting Mount Skierfe would still remain the ultimate goal of the trip.

Meeting location: We meet at Jokkmokk guesthouse also known as Åsgård Hostel (Jokkmokks Vandrarhem) at 17:00 (p.m.) on the first day.
