Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Canoe Karats Lake

standing near pearl river with forest in the background in sweden

Our tour group meets at 9:15 a.m in central Jokkmokk, where you will then be transported to Jokkmokkguiderna’s place. Here you will receive all your necessary adventure equipment along with a safety briefing. Then it is time to hit the road!

The drive to Karats Lake is approximately 50 km (31 mi.) and you are sure to witness some stunning natural wonders along the way. Before setting up camp for the night we will head out onto the lake for the first canoe ride of the tour. Karats is an elongated body of water, dotted with islands and islets in the east and lined by forests in the west. In the evening you will get to enjoy the lake views by campfire light.

The next four days will be spent exploring the picturesque Pärlälvens Nature ReserveThis is the last roadless area of large-scale forest, so you will get the chance to explore some of Europe's most remote wilderness. Your knowledgeable guides will educate you on the flora and fauna of the surrounding forest.

We will canoe between mountains and visit smaller lakes, where we will try to fish for some dinner. If we are successful your guides will grill up some fresh fish for an authentic Lapland meal!

In addition to canoeing, we will explore the pine forests by foot on short day hikes. If we are up to the task the group will climb Mt. Farforita, which has a steep 400 m (1,312.34 ft.) descent straight into the lake.

Our evenings will be spent in mountain tents by the water, where we will share meals and stories by a warm fire.

After breakfast on our last day, we will paddle back east to our first departure destination. Here we will pack up all of our gear and return to Jokkmokk. We will arrive back in Jokkmokk around 4 p.m.
