This family farm was established in 1995 by Knútur Rafn Ármann and his wife, Helena Hermundardóttir. The couple, who have expertise in horticulture and horses, expanded the existing farm throughout the years and made it a place for people to spend time learning about farming and testing out quality foods grown right here, on the farm.
Their early years establishing the farm started with working on what they already had – two greenhouses and a house. A few years later, they expanded by building a 1,174 m² greenhouse. In 2002, they started growing tomatoes, doing it all year round thanks to artificial lighting system implementation. 2007 was when tourist services were established, and a stable for 20 horses was built. With time, it all got to a point where horse shows started being performed. And since 2012, people can buy products as souvenirs from the farm’s shop.
The tomato farm is most recognized for its fresh products that can be tested at Friðheimar restaurant and bought at the shop, Icelandic horse shows held in 14 different languages, and smart and sustainable horticulture solutions.
When can you visit the tomato farm? The great news is that it’s open all year round. You’re welcome to enjoy your lunch surrounded by tomato plants and see the greenhouse or catch a horse show.
