Itinerary

Your tour will start at the Wilderness Center located in East Iceland. Here, you'll meet and mount up on your trusty steed, who will accompany you on your journey. Originally developed from ponies brought to the country in the 9th century, Icelandic horses are known to be friendly and easy to handle.

From the Wilderness Center, your expedition will take you to the abandoned farm in Kleif. Your expert guide will tell you everything you need to know about the settlement, from its history to various stories and rumors. You'll even get to explore the inside of an old farmhouse!

After that, you'll arrive near Jökulsá—the second largest river in Iceland. You will cross it with an old-fashioned traditional cableway, which gives you the chance to see the beautiful nature of Iceland from a bird’s-eye view.

Finally, you’ll return to the Wilderness Center, where you’ll spend some more time with the majestic Icelandic horses.

  • Dress for comfort and weather. Wear sturdy shoes, non-slippery pants, and waterproof layers in case of rain. You’ll want to feel secure in the saddle and ready for anything the weather throws at you.
  • Weight limit: For the safety of Icelandic horses, the rider limit is 100 kg (220 lbs). This is non-negotiable and respectfully enforced.
  • Cancellation policy: Plans change—we get it. If you need to cancel, you’ll be charged 50% if it’s within 21 days, 75% within 7 days, and 100% within 4 days of the tour.
  • Location: The guided tour starts at the Wilderness Center, located at 64.964220, -15.157244, Múlavegur í Fljótsdal, Egilsstaðir, Iceland.

We can unfortunately not accommodate you and your group if the number of your group extends the number of available seats left on the tour.
