Itinerary

Your retreat starts with a morning pick-up in Reykjavík and a jaw-dropping drive into the Highlands. You’ll feel it right away—something special is about to happen. Roads narrow into twisted mountain tracks. Silence deepens as the city’s lights fade, snow-dusted lava fields appear, and towering glaciers rise in the distance.

After four hours of window-gazing at the ever-changing winter wonderland, you’ll arrive at Kerlingarfjöll Highland Base—your home for three adventure-filled days. From here, slip into pure relaxation in the wild.

Each morning brings a new thrill: guided hikes, seasonal explorations, or simply relaxing in the lodge with panoramic views. You’ll soak in geothermal pools, warm up in the sauna, and enjoy a hearty three-course dinner at the cozy on-site restaurant. Nights are reserved for laughter, stargazing, chasing the Northern Lights, and listening to local stories, accompanied by complimentary drinks.

Hidden deep in Iceland’s heart, the Kerlingarfjöll mountain range is one of the country’s most stunning areas. Steam rises from geothermal valleys, and orange, mineral-colored peaks make you feel as if you’ve landed on another planet. And everywhere—this warm, soothing silence. At the edge of Ásgarður Valley, Kerlingarfjöll Highland Base is where modern comfort meets rugged mountain beauty.

You’ll stay in the Deluxe Room, radiating warmth and rustic coziness. With deep windows or a terrace, double or twin beds, and a private bathroom, it’s designed to make you feel at one with the mountains.

Accommodation
Highland Base
Highland Base is a remote wilderness retreat in Iceland’s central highlands, offering cozy accommodations, geothermal hot springs, and direct access to breathtaking landscapes of volcanic deserts, glaciers, and rugged mountain trails.

Each day, you’ll take part in outdoor or indoor activities, depending on the weather. Your local guide might take you on a short winter hike through snow-dusted peaks, show the area’s best photo spots, or reveal the history of colorful rhyolite mountains.

Highland Baths

You can enjoy the unlimited use of Highland Baths on-site—a set of three geothermal hot pools built into the earth for a natural, communal soak. There’s a sauna, changing rooms, a bar, and a sheltered underground passage connecting the hot spring area to the hotel.

Stargazing and Northern Lights

On clear nights from October to April, you can use a high-powered telescope and explore the cosmos in a pristine, light-free setting. Hunt for Northern Lights, spot planets, or gaze at distant galaxies from 21:00 onwards.

Zoom through the rugged winter landscapes of Kerlingarfjöll on a buggy or snowmobile tour. Once your booking is confirmed, just get in touch with Highland Base to book your ride.
