Itinerary

Explore massive glaciers, rugged lava fields, snowy mountain peaks, and much more!

This incredible tour will take us to the west of Skaftafell in Iceland’s iconic Vatnajökull National Park – to an outlet glacier, known as Skeiðarárjökull, which unfurls from the main body of Europe’s largest glacier. It is a vast sheet of ice that is sadly retreating, offering a fascinating insight into some of the environmental forces that are challenging our world.

From there, we will fly to the Grænalón glacial lake (the green lagoon) – a magnificent expanse of crystalline water that is surrounded by imposing glacial walls.

We will then press on to the impressive Síðujökull Glacier, before flying over the fascinating Lakagígar volcano craters, which were carved into the landscape by a massive volcanic eruption in 1783.

We will then head back to base along the southeast edge of Skeiðarárjökull – providing more stunning views of its enormous size.

Your expert pilot will tell you everything you need to know about all the spectacular things that you are seeing, ensuring that this adrenaline-pumping flight is educational as well.

If you want to fly over a diverse landscape that epitomizes the land of fire and ice, then this is the perfect tour for you.

The tour is operated from Skaftafell Terminal – Tour Center. The best way to get there is to drive on road nr. 1 and turn off the road to the opposite side of Skaftafell National Park. GPS coordinates: 64°00’10.7″N 16°56’29.4″W
