The stunning view of the Icelandic isolated fjords in the northwest of the island is something that might very likely stay with you for a lifetime.
The mountains and valleys around Isafjordur offer the enthusiastic walker some great opportunities for day trips in unspoiled nature. The view over the picturesque town and the sheer mountains on each side is spectacular and takes on a different shape every step of the way.
The trip begins with a short bus ride up to the ski area of Seljalandsdalur where we start the walk.
Our route takes us along mountain lakes, crystal clear streams, and patches of fluorescent moss that are quite characteristic of the mountains in the area.
After roughly an hour's walk, we get to the base of the mountain with Þjófatindar Peaks looming above. We zig-zag up to the pass between the peaks for a spectacular view over the surrounding mountains and fjords.
After breaking for refreshments, we'll continue down into the valley on the other side of the pass where the quaint town of Hnífsdalur sits along the shore. In Hnífsdalur we'll be picked up and driven back to Ísafjörður.
Please note: Good footwear is the key to enjoying this trip. Please note that there might be some snow on the route in early June.
