Itinerary

Information

Get the dopamine flowing and the adrenaline pumping on an extreme journey through the rivers and wilderness just outside Reykjavík city limits. Hop on an ATV and board a raft all while seeing Iceland from a whole new, radical point-of-view.

Reykjavik: Your ATV and rafting tour begins at 9 a.m. in Reykjavík, where you will be picked up from your selected meeting point and transported to our ATV base camp located just 15 min from downtown.

Upon arrival one of our friendly guides will go to greet you and get you set up with an ATV. They will also teach you how to operate the vehicle and provide the necessary safety instructions.

Hafrafell Mountain: Once everyone is geared up and ready to go, we will head into the lush, rolling green hills of the countryside outside the world’s northernmost capital en route to Hafrafell Mountain.

We then reach the base of Hafrafell Mountain and begin our ATV climb to its summit. At its peak, you will be greeted with magnificent views of the capital city and the imposing Esja Mountain. The view at the top and Iceland’s natural splendor provides for an unbelievable backdrop for a photo or two of a lifetime.

Hvítá River: We will then be picked up from the Hafrafell and driven a short distance to Drumbó Basecamp located beside the Hvítá River. At camp, you will attend a quick raft training session and be given all the necessary equipment for the next leg of your journey.

Next, we grab our paddles, board our rafts, and push off into the baby-blue waters of the Hvítá River. The waters go from rough to calm and back again over the 4.4-mi (7-km) stretch of river we’ll be exploring and the shores are lined with magnificent, weathered rock formations.

Gullfoss Canyon: We continue down the river and enter Gullfoss Canyon, lined high with breccia walls. Be sure to keep an eye out for the two imposing rock pillars known as Karl and Kerling (Man and Women). Legends say and locals still believe these pillars to be trolls that were unfortunately turned to stone.

In the canyon, you’ll have the opportunity to go ashore and jump from one of the cliff faces into the river below. Not for the meek or faint of heart!

After conquering the rapids, we’ll finally reach the end of the line where you can change into some dry clothes or relax in a hot sauna. Get some rest and reflect on one long, fun day as you wait for the bus to take to back to Reykjavík.

There’s only one thing left to do following your long day on the river — and that’s sleep well and happy!

Pick-up starts at 9 a.m. from your Reykjavík meeting point. Please note, that the pick-up can take up to 30 min. After pick-up, we will drive to our ATV base camp, located only 15 minutes from central Reykjavík.

To drive an ATV, you must be at least 17 years old and bring a valid driver’s license.

Warm undergarments, preferably fleece or wool, are recommended. Also, bring warm socks, a sweater, and an extra change of clothes.

Don’t forget a bathing suit and towel so you can end your excursion with a shower and a steam in our sauna.

This tour is family-friendly. Children from 11 years old can participate in our exciting the rafting and ATV tour but, of course, they may not drive. Make sure they dress appropriately.
