Hop on a repurposed NATO missile truck for a ride to the man-made Langjökull Ice Cave. Step into the Ice Age inside a man-made ice cave in Glacier Langjokull. It is a journey that starts at the roots of Iceland’s second largest glacier and takes you on a guided tour in monster trucks to the entrance of the ice cave, 1200 meters above sea level.

On this Langjokull Glacier tour, explore Iceland’s (and the world’s) largest man-made ice cave. A 20-ton monster truck will take you to the entrance of the cave, located close to the top of the glacier.
Then trek through the 1,640-ft (500-m) long ice tunnel with separate frozen halls. Marvel at brilliant blue ice formations and magnificent crevasses. You’ll dream about this ice cave experience for years to come!
While there are a few man-made ice tunnels and caves in various places around the world, there is nothing quite like Ice Cave Iceland, either high up in a remote area of a glacier, or on such a scale.
Never before has anyone been able to see the beautiful glacial-ice at the heart of a glacier. It is not quite a Jules Verne journey to the centre of the earth, or even to the absolute centre of the glacier, but it feels like an exciting and magical journey, deep within the glacier, and it is deep enough to reach another world, a world of magnificent, stunning glacial-ice.
We will spend about 50 minutes exploring the tunnels, the crevasses, moulins (glacier mills), running water, ice layers and space between them, different types of snow and ice, and how the glacier evolves.
We will have the rare oportunity to see normal snow turn into a different type: crust of snow, and then we see that type become glacier ice. On any other location there's but pure ice.
The adventure kicks off as we depart from Reykjavik and make our way to Langjokull Glacier. The first stop is Deildatunguhver. This is Europe’s most powerful hot spring, gushing out about 48 gallons (180 liters) of boiling water per second! Don’t forget to look for a rare type of fern, Blechnum Spicant, that only grows here.
The next stop is Hraunfossar Waterfall (Lava Falls). The cascade is home to thousands of rivulets that seep through the lava rocks of Hallmundarhraun Lava Field. Then witness Barnafossar Waterfall, found just a few hundred meters from Hraunfossar. Your guide will tell you the spooky story surrounding the falls.
After lunch at a café in the vibrant town of Húsafell, we move on to Langjökull Glacier. Hop on a former NATO missile truck and drive close to the top of the glacier where the ice cave resides. Inside the cave, touch ice that’s been forming for hundreds of years. Explore a LED-lit tunnel that leads to different caves, including a frozen chapel for underground weddings.
After about an hour inside the glacier, exit the cave with memories to last a lifetime.
Our adventure comes to an end when we return to Reykjavik at approximately 6:30 p.m. (18:30).
Meet us at the Húsafell Center, where your guide will be waiting for you. Then board a modified glacier vehicle for the ride across Langjokull Glacier and up to its peak. Sprawling over 368 mi2 (953km2), the glacier is Iceland’s (and Europe’s) second-largest ice cap. From its peak, you’ll get a chance to gaze across this endless snowy landscape.
Then enter the winding ice tunnel that leads to the man-made ice cave called “Into the Glacier.” Your expert guide will lead the way and tell you about the lives of glaciers. The glacial cave is stuffed with natural ice formations including deep moulins, multi-coloured ice layers, sharp crevasses, and labyrinths.
Seeing and touching the centuries-old snow that has turned to ice is an experience like none other.
You’ll spend about an hour exploring Langjokull Glacier ice cave.

The actual view of an ice cave may look different from pictures since ice caves are a natural phenomenon and are constantly changing. How they look may vary depending on the season, time of the day, lighting, and other factors.
Iceland is known for unforeseeable weather. It is likely that you can see all 4 seasons in one day.
Dressing for that kind of weather can always be demanding, so we suggest dressing in layers. 3 or 4 upper layers are highly recommended, for example, a light t-shirt (preferably wool) next to the skin, then a fleece or heavy wool garment topped off with a waterproof windbreaker.
Jeans are not recommended for our trips as they are not suitable for the weather conditions, they become very heavy, cold and uncomfortable to wear when they get wet.
Lightweight hiking pants, track pants or long cotton pants are convenient and wear wind/waterproof pants over them. There is high UV and sunlight reflecting off on the glacier so we highly recommend using sunglasses and sunscreen even if it is cloudy.
You will need sturdy hiking boots that fit crampons for the glacier hiking tours. If you do not own a pair then we rent out suitable hiking boots as well as a waterproof raincoat and trousers.
It is good to bring your own backpack on our full-day or half-day tours. It’s the best carry-on for a small lunch, extra clothes, and other necessary items.
The scenery on the tour is full of stunning, breathtaking views that you’ll almost definitely want to capture forever, so you should definitely bring your camera along. Your tour guide will also be happy to take your photo.
Crampons enable you to walk on the glacier ice without slipping. They are metal spikes that we attach to the soles of your hiking shoes.

Yes, we provide you with all the necessary glacier gear for our glacier hiking tours. Ice axes, crampons, harnesses, and helmets are provided. This will help you to complete the tour safely. The minimum shoe size to attach crampons is EU 35.
Iceland is known to have a lot of snow and when the snow stays long enough in one place than it turns to ice. Over long periods of time, the ice layers up becoming huge blocks called glaciers. It forms to create ginormous glaciers that sweep across huge masses of land. Iceland is home of the largest glacier in Europe that is called Vatnajökull. Rain is common in Iceland but we never let the rain be in our way to go forward with our tours.
That’s why we highly recommend appropriate clothing so you can stay warm and dry.
Nature is out of our control and therefore we need to adapt to the weather. Your safety is our priority so if your safety is compromised by going on the tour then we will cancel it and you will get full reimbursement.
