Rafting and Beer Tasting with BBQ
The rapids were only class II+, but the trip was still really fun. If you've rafted before then I suggest volunteering for the front to make it more fun since the rapids are small. There's a part where the guides let you cliff jump. They also played games in the calmer sections. And some of the guides purposely flipped their rafts for fun. The beer flight was good. And the BBQ was delicious. All in all, the river is a little tame, but the scenery is beautiful and the guides make it very fun.
Our rafting and local beer tasting tour begins at our base camp at Drumboddstaðir or Drumbó for short, a charming farm close to the Golden Circle. You can also choose to be picked-up from Reykjavik, which might come in handy if you want to get back to the capital after the beer tasting!
Once we’ve all arrived at base camp, our experienced guides will introduce you to the rafting equipment and answer any questions you may have. When you’re comfortable with the equipment, we’ll board a classy, old school bus. Our team renovated and restored the bus after the US army left its base in Keflavík in 2006.
We’ll then drive to the Hvítá river and have a safety briefing before launching our rafts into the water. This is when the real fun begins! We’ll paddle through a deep canyon surrounded by rocky landscapes. Be prepared to get splashed — the frothing rapids won’t leave anyone dry!
When the rafting adventure is over, we’ll head back to our base camp. If you want to sit back, relax and warm up, a hot sauna will be waiting for you! You may also freshen up with a hot shower before starting the second part of our tour.
Once you’re ready, we’ll serve a selection of four Icelandic beers each paired with a spellbinding story told by a local expert touching on Iceland’s relationship with beer. This is your chance to experience, first-hand, Icelandic culture and feel like a true Iceland insider!
Pick-up service from Reykjavik is available for the afternoon departure (2 p.m.), the pick-up process starts at 12:30 p.m. and can last up to 30 min. If you prefer to meet on location, please arrive at Drumboddstaðir 15 minutes before the tour start...
We recommend wearing multiple layers. Try to avoid cotton since it holds water and will only make you colder when it becomes wet. Wool, fleece, and synthetics are the best materials to wear. They’ll keep your body warm even if your clothes get wet. ...
