Itinerary

It takes place at Laugarvatn Fontana – a wonderful geothermally powered facility, perched on the edge of the picturesque Laugarvatn Lake. We sort out the entrance and everything else, so you can enjoy the natural steam baths, mineral pools, and Finnish saunas without worrying about anything.

The natural steam baths next to Lake Laugarvatn have been a part of Iceland’s legendary hot spring culture since 1929. They’re one of the oldest and most famous thermal baths in all of Iceland. Wispy plumes of healing steam rise from the floors of three traditional steam rooms – providing a nourishing experience that will rejuvenate your body and your soul.

The facility also contains a trio of outdoor geothermal pools, which vary in depth, size, and temperature, ensuring that visitors have the complete hot spring experience. They are ideal for rest and relaxation, featuring interesting local artwork and stunning views of the lake. The hot tub, Viska, is especially good in this regard. Sit back and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding area from its raised platform.

The facility also comes equipped with a Finnish-style sauna, Ylur, which can reach temperatures of between 80°C (176°F) and 90°C (194°F). Kick back and sweat your troubles away, while enjoying magnificent views of the lake from its expansive window.

Completing the experience is Laugarvatn itself – a sapphire beauty that can be swum in by visitors. Its cooling waters are the perfect break from the heat of the hot springs – ideal for intrepid souls who don’t mind a bit of chill. If you don’t fancy a dip in the lake, then why not take a stroll on the black sand beach and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the area?

Laugarvatn Fontana is perched on the edge of Laugarvatn Lake, around a 3-hours drive from Reykjavik. It’s close to the world-famous Golden Circle route and your visit to the hot water pools can be combined with one of our Golden Circle tours.

It is easy to drive to Laugarvatn, which is located on road number 37 on the route to Geysir and Gullfoss. A new road number 354 connects Laugarvatn to the Þingvellir National Park.
