Golden Circle

The day starts with the famous Golden Circle tour in the morning, spending roughly 8 hours exploring three of Iceland’s most famed sights;  Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss waterfall, and Thingvellir National Park. After the day of sightseeing, you can go and explore the capital at your own leisure, using the Reykjavík Sightseeing Hop On Hop Off bus.

The first stop on the tour is Þingvellir National Park, home of the first ever parliament but most famous for rift valley caused by the separation of 2 tectonic plates, where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart at a rate of a few centimeters per year.

At Geysir geothermal area you visit the famous original geyser, which is now dormant and also take your photo with the much more active Strokkur geyser, which shoots a column of boiling water and steam up to 30 metres (98 ft.) into the air on average every 4-10 minutes.

The last stop on the tour is Gullfoss waterfall, the most popular waterfall in Iceland! Gullfoss is a step waterfall, created by the glacial river Hvítá, which drops from a height of 32 m (105 foot). The Golden Falls plummets down in two stages into a big canyon where rocky walls reach up to 70 meters in height. On sunny days rainbows can be seen over and into the fall.

Not officially part of the circle, but en route, we visit the Friðheimar greenhouse cultivation center, where we enjoy the tropical conditions of a Mediterranean climate. You will learn the science behind growing delicious, pesticide-free tomatoes with the aid of geothermal heat.

We will arrive back in Reykjavik in the afternoon.

The confirmation voucher you will receive upon booking will also be valid for the Hop On Hop Off bus. You choose the date and time you want to go and explore Reykjavík in our Reykjavík Sightseeing Hop On – Hop Off bus. Hop on and off at conveniently located bus stops.
