We’ll collect you at 8:00 from your designated Reykjavik collection point. From there we’ll make the scenic drive to Iceland’s famous South Coast and the mighty Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which will be our first stop of the day. Its cascade thunders 60 meters down, and has unique features where visitors can walk behind the stream!
We’ll get back on the road and pass Gígjökull glacier – which was dramatically affected by the notorious Eyjafjallajökull eruption of 2010, before we eventually reach Thórsmörk. We’ll depart the vehicle there and take in our incredible surroundings. Thórsmörk really is a one-of-a-kind destination, an oasis of green nestled between two mighty glaciers, with hot springs and glacier rivers. It was supposedly created by a single blow of Thor’s mighty hammer.
Thórsmörk leads to the famous Fimmvörðuháls Trail – a legendary hiking route that is part of the world-famous Laugavegur Trail. The ascent will show us glaciers, mountain ridges and volcanoes – the definition of the land of fire and ice.
We’ll pause at a wide plateau high above Thórsmörk rewarding us with stunning vistas over the Icelandic Highlands. The hike then continues towards two volcanic craters, known as Magni and Modi, which were creations of the infamous Eyjafjallajokull eruption. These are the best hikes in Thorsmork that you won’t want to miss!
The total elevation gain is around 700-800 meters and the Thorsmork hike will be around 16 kilometers in total. The popular trail from Thórsmörk to Fimmvorduhals is one of the best hikes in the world and is an absolute must for outdoor enthusiasts visiting Iceland. If you want to test yourself and challenge your limits, then this hike is perfect for you.
After the tour, we will drop you back at Reykjavik.
We recommend wearing warm clothing during the hike – sturdy hiking shoes and waterproof clothing are also essential. If you don’t own any of these items, you can rent them during the booking process. Please note that this is impossible on the day ...)
The tour is available to all experience levels; however, we do recommend that you have a reasonable level of fitness – you will need to be able to walk up to 16 kilometers on sometimes uneven ground. The weather in Iceland is unpredictable – pleas...)
