Itinerary

It is an ideal tour for people who want to safely get up close and personal with some of the most incredible animals that have ever existed on this planet. Your expert guide will take you to the places where we are most likely to see these ancient giants of the deep, providing plenty of fascinating facts about Iceland’s whales and their importance to Icelandic culture. It is a phenomenal experience, which is sure to stay with you for the rest of your life, so don’t delay, book our whale watching extravaganza today!

This exciting tour begins at the harbor, where we will board our exciting RIB boats, ideal for accessing the wonders of Icelandic marine-life. RIB boats are excellent for wildlife watching thanks to their low design, which allows us to get up close and personal with the creatures while keeping a safe enough distance to not interfere with the animals.

From the harbor, we will travel to Kollafjordur bay, stopping off at the picturesque island of Akurey, known as the Puffin Island and famous for the many bird species that live there. Here you will see eiders and arctic tern, along with cute puffins, who nest on the island. This makes it perfect for everyone, although, we find that children and families especially enjoy seeing these adorable little birds.

Then we will push towards the whale watching area, bouncing up and down as we cut through the waves, during an exhilarating ride, which you are bound to enjoy. Whale watching is not an exact science and there is no guarantee that we will see a specific type of whale, however, our expert captains know the seas well and will endeavor to find whales using local knowledge to maximize our chance of finding them.

watching whales from a small boat near Reykjavik

There are more than 20 species of whale in the seas around Iceland, appearing at various times of the year and at varying levels of frequency. Minke whales, harbor porpoises, white-beaked dolphins, humpbacks, orcas and sperm whales can all be found in the waters around Iceland. With the mighty blue whale, the largest animal to ever exist on the planet, occasionally seen as well, ensuring that it is a truly magnificent experience.

If we are lucky enough to see any of these incredible creatures in the wild, it is a breathtaking and hair-raising experience: the intelligence of their hunting methods, the way they breach and frolic in the water, and the powerful jets of water they fire into the air, all serve to inspire awe and wonder in equal measure.

Then, on our return journey, we will take the scenic route, seeing more amazing wildlife and spectacular scenery along the way: the perfect end to a truly awe-inspiring day, which combines an exhilarating boat ride, with majestic nature and wildlife.

We provide safety equipment during the tour, including warm flotation suits, life-vests, gloves, and goggles. There will always be an expert guide, who will keep you safe and provide you with information about what you are seeing. We recommend bringing a camera, so you can immortalize all the incredible things that you see!

  • Due to the speed of the boat and the bumpy journey over the waves, this tour is not suitable for seniors (65+ yrs), pregnant women, children under 145 cm (57 inch), and or those with a history of heart or back problems.
  • You need to be able to stand in your seat and fit into one of our overalls to participate (maximum size 3XL).
