Your sea kayak adventure tour begins at Stokkseyri, a picturesque village with colorful traditional wooden houses and the invigorating salt-tang of the ocean in the air. You meet up with your professional kayaking guide at the swimming pool and head to the lake at Löngudæl, you will be provided with a drysuit to keep you warm, a life vest, and all the other kayaking gear.
You are shown how to paddle, so have no concerns if you have no kayaking experience, this is perfect for beginners, you get used to paddling before you arrive at the sea!
The lake is picturesque and surrounded by vibrant grassland and reeds, paddling towards the Hraunsá River you will be surrounded by swaying reeds and grasses. From a kayak, you get a new perspective on Icelandic nature, seeing things you would not see any other way.
You never know what you will discover as you trace your way through these meandering channels. The verdant green colors of nature contrast starkly to the lava fields which cover so much of Iceland. An enormous number of plants flourish in this area, and there are bird habitats alongside the Hraunsá River. You will see more of these, and also feel the force of faster-moving water, as you approach the sea. Your guide loves this area and is hugely knowledgeable about it, so you can expect to discover many fun facts about the local flora, fauna, and birdlife. Kayaking on the ocean is exhilarating and exciting, your guide will lead you to skerries with peaceful lagoons, these places are much beloved by the local seal population, so seals can sometimes be seen swimming, basking in the shallows, or relaxing their corpulent bodies as they ‘sunbathe’ in a rocky place. Surprisingly, they are not shy, seeming to quite enjoy the admiring glances which come their way from groups of kayak paddlers!
Your tour ends at the harbor in Stokkseyri, we offer you the chance, totally free of charge, to enjoy a swim in the lovely Stokkseyri Swimming Pool.
Groups stay close to the guide, which is confidence-boosting for beginners and give you the opportunity to ask questions if you would like to. The boats are sit-on-top kayaks, this kind of kayak is so stable it is used in rescue operations in many countries. Kayak guides are very aware of local nature and conservation issues.
