Located on the lee side of the Coast Mountains, the South Chilcotin Mountains lie within a transition zone.  This favorable location produces a "Rainshadow," home to sunny skies and a dry climate. The area is renowned for its biodiversity, with an abundance of wildflowers that bloom from May to September, and an outstanding variety of wildlife throughout the year.

You’ll be based out of the Chilcotin Ranch, where you’ll overnight in rustic accommodation. Choose from 3 day, 4 day, and 7 day itineraries and a range of wildlife viewing options.

Grizzlies are the symbol of the Chilcotin wilderness. Viewing packages in the spring and fall focus on observing these impressive animals. See these awesome animals in their natural habitat as they progress through the seasons. They concentrate in the low meadows during the Spring breeding season. Then follow them into the subalpine, by horse, 4x4 and foot, and examine their territory marker trees, explore their dens and collect data for our Grizzly Study.

Track grizzly bears by watching out for rub trees or territory markers. We’ll collect hair from these trees and GPS their locations for subsequent mapping and analyses. The alpine meadows are their favorite summer feeding ranges, and the open areas allow for excellent sightings and photographic opportunities. Viewing is done on foot or by horse, returning nightly to the ranch.

Wolf tracking is the ultimate challenge, requiring more patience and cunning than nearly every other form of wildlife viewing. When nature rewards your persistent pursuit, however, you’ll discover the soul-stirring essence of true Canadian wildlife. Hear the mysterious, haunting howl of a wolf echoing through the valley. Feel the spine-tingling rush as you spot your first wolf, darting across the frozen lake in pursuit of its prey. Every moment of our wolf tours brims with the anticipation of what wonders the next moment holds.

On the multi-species safari, you'll peer down into the lush valley at black bears feeding on the fresh shoots of grass. In the deep forests of willow, catch a rare glimpse of the stately Canadian moose, or read tracks to locate the mountain goat as they lead you to the north facing bluffs where they escape the heat of the day. Your guide will show you how to search for California bighorn sheep as they traverse the high alpine ridge tops, and watch in silent reverence as you come upon the graceful mule deer grazing on alpine meadows. Viewing is by horse or on foot in prime locations, returning nightly to the ranch.

Over winter, predator stalking packages - stalk the most elusive predators in North America by 4x4, on foot and by snowmobile. "Bush Savvy Guides" lead you on these predator quests for Cougar (Puma/Mountain Lion) and Timber wolf.
