This 15-day guided canoe trip explores one of the Yukon’s most remote and beautiful waterways. The Wind River flows through the pristine Peel River Watershed, cutting between rugged peaks and broad alpine valleys. Its crystal-clear waters, Class II rapids, and remote wilderness make it ideal for intermediate paddlers. Wildlife sightings are common—moose, caribou, Dall sheep, grizzlies, black bears, wolves, and peregrine falcons call this region home. Camps are set up along gravel bars and forested shores, with hearty meals prepared in camp.
Highlights include a floatplane flight into the headwaters at McClusky Lake, spectacular mountain scenery, excellent hiking opportunities, and visits to traditional First Nations territories. This is truly one of the Yukon’s iconic wilderness expeditions.
For a true northern canoeing experience come to try this fantastic fly-in canoe expedition down the Wind River in the northern Yukon. This exciting canoeing adventure into the untouched wilderness will meet all your adventure expectations. The entire Wind River has crystal clear water, Class 2 rapids and the river flows through some of the most incredible mountain scenery you will ever experience. Wildlife encounters along the rivers are frequent and may include moose, caribou, eagles, wolves and grizzly bears. Camps are set up along the shores of the river and meals are cooked over an open fire.
There are lots of opportunities for hiking, fishing and just exploring this vast wilderness. The remote setting and exciting water will thrill anyone with a sense of adventure.
The Wind River is renowned for its remote beauty, hiking, and whitewater for the intermediate canoeist. The headwaters of the Wind are only accessible by float plane, and the legendary Beaver or Otter aircraft takes us through the spectacular Bonnet Plume Range of the northern Yukon into McClusky Lake. Here we are about to start a challenging journey down this clear and narrow river. With alpine campsites alongside the river, easy hikes, many panoramic vistas are guaranteed. Seeing grizzly, wolf, dall sheep, caribou, and moose are all possibilities.
