The Inside Passage stretches from Vancouver Island to Prince Rupert in Northern BC, through the protected waters of British Columbia’s Central and Northern Coastline. The Inside Passage is known for its relatively calm waters, mainly protected by a group of islands on the west of the 300-plus mile waterway. This makes the perfect route for a small vessel expedition cruise.
Twice a year, the High Seas Drifter, a historic 64-foot mothership, travels through the Inside Passage and the Great Bear Rainforest. In May, the northbound route starts in Campbell River on Vancouver Island and ends in the Hartley Bay area south of Kitimat, BC. Then the ship returns to Campbell River in September. The cruise is completed in 6 days at a leisurely pace, so you have time to experience the Pacific coastal environments that are teeming with marine life, fjords, inlets, historic coastal villages, and First Nations culture – you will get an intimate look at the Inside Passage.
The Drifter gives your guides the opportunity to offer an expedition cruise for an intimate group of 2-6 guests, allowing you to get up close and personal with the Inside Passage and the Great Bear Rainforest of British Columbia. Generally, you will cruise for half days, weather-depending, and then go exploring in the afternoons on kayaks or on one of the crew boats. Evenings are spent in protected areas at anchor while we dine and socialize on the Drifter. This is small-group adventure travel at its best.
Your coastal cruise adventure will be centered around the Transport Canada-approved 64’ Mothership, the High Seas Drifter, a historic vessel on the BC Coast. She is a step into the past, but with all the modern amenities, you need to be comfortable on your trip.
