This exceptional wilderness lodge is situated in a protected bay and is the only facility on Blachford Lake. The lake boasts some big fish - 38-pound lake trout and 32-pound northern pike are the current lodge records. Anglers can also try for walleye up to 5 pounds in Magrum or Grace Lake, a short boat ride and hike away.

Blachford Lake offers trophy-sized Lake Trout and Northern Pike! In recent years the winning entries in our Trophy Release Contest were a 38 lb. Lake Trout, and a 32 lb. Northern Pike. Whitefish can be caught in Blachford Lake, and Walleye (around 4 or 5 lb.) can be caught on two of the adjoining lakes that are just a short walk from Blachford Lake. The ice melts on the lake in early June making it an excellent time for fishing. Throughout June through to early July, fish are generally caught close to the surface. From late August through to September, Northern Pike bite a lot in shallow water. In early September Trout swim in deeper water and by late September they rise to shallow water to spawn.

The lodge actively promotes a “Catch & Release” Fish Management Program that includes the use of barbless hooks and fish gloves to ensure the careful and healthy release of all large fish. However, we encourage our guests to enjoy tasty smaller fish for shore lunches or dinners!

Information

The lake is typical of the Canadian Shield and has plenty of structure that holds lots of fish. There are deep channels, bays, reefs, and islands, giving you endless areas to explore. The fishing here is awesome in the weeks following ice out in June and continues well into September when the large lakers come into shallower water. Although this trip is self-guided, you will be provided with a guide for a couple of hours on your first day. Your guide will give you an introduction to the boats, motors, and equipment, plus take you out on the lake to show you some good fishing spots to try for northern pike and lakers, and check out the nearby walk-in walleye lakes too. The lodge has some fishing gear you can use, but you can certainly bring your favorite tackle and lures.

Located 60 air miles southeast of Yellowknife, the lodge can only be reached by charter float aircraft and is the only lodge on the lake. The pilot will provide a scenic flight to and from the lodge, and you’ll be amazed at the wilderness and countless remote lakes that unfold beneath you. This seclusion ensures the environmental integrity of the lake and ample stocks of fish for the future. Far from the noise and bustle of the city, this fly-in lodge is the perfect Canadian fishing getaway.

Summer in the NWT is an amazing time.  Bask in the midnight sun, catch a trophy fish, hike on some of the world’s oldest rock, or simply enjoy the unspoiled nature and dramatic landscapes that surround you. This is the ideal setting for a Canadian wilderness fishing experience. For the non-angler, there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy, including canoeing, hiking, and kayaking.

Though remote, the lodge offers amenities such as gourmet meals, indoor washrooms and hot shower facilities, electricity, private lodge rooms or cabins, an amazing outdoor hot tub overlooking the lake, a lakefront sauna, and authentic tipi.

There are six newly renovated guest rooms on the second floor of the main lodge, three rooms with private washrooms (shower, toilet, sink), and three rooms with access to shared showers and washrooms. Unusual for such a remote facility, the washrooms not only have hot running water but also hotel-style toilets; you would hardly know they are the eco-friendly composting kind!

Lodge rooms are dressed with down duvets, and feature huge windows with expansive views, electrical outlets and in-room thermostats.

There are two viewing decks upstairs and an outdoor hot tub. The main floor serves as the lounge, with a bar, dining room, and library. The main floor also houses the kitchen and a small office.

There are five newly renovated log guest cabins closer to the lake to choose from - separated for privacy. All cabins have electrical outlets, a wood-burning stove for heat, pillow-tip mattresses with down duvets, large windows for aurora viewing and private washrooms with shower, toilet, and sink.

The lodge and all cabins enjoy free wireless internet access.  They are all non-smoking.

All meals are included, and gourmet meals are prepared fresh each day.  The lodge prides itself on quality fresh food and even grow their own veggies onsite in their organic greenhouse.  The menus feature a tasty blend of Northern gourmet favorites. The talented chef creates superb menus with fresh seasonal vegetables and a variety of fresh fish, beef, lamb, and chicken to please every appetite. All dishes, from bread to desserts, are made on-site. The chef will gladly prepare your freshly caught fish, too.

The lodge is a licensed facility with a fully stocked bar and wine list. They maintain a selection of wines, beers, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages.

Two hours of guided fishing are included to introduce you to the lake and the best fishing spots.  Fishing guides are available on all packages for an additional cost (4 hours @ $200 per person or 8 hours @ $300 per person). For non-fishers, two daily interpretive tours of two hours are included in the price.
