Fly-in lake fishing at wilderness lodge in Northwest Territories | CA-BLL303

Anglers will experience unforgettable lake fishing north of 60 in the pure, clean waters of Blachford Lake

Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Walleye and Whitefish are all in abundance and some of them are so big you won't believe your eyes.

  • Blachford Lake
  • Lake Trout
  • Northern Pike
  • Walleye
  • Whitefish
  • Magrum & Grace Lakes

This lodge is situated in a protected bay and is the only settlement on 17 miles-long Blachford Lake. The lake boasts some big fish - 38 lb lake trout and 32 lb northern pike. They have been practicing catch and release fishing for more than 25 years, and the big ones are returned to the lake to grow some more. Anglers can try for walleye in Magrum or Grace Lake, a short boat ride and hike away. Although we encourage catch and release, each group of anglers can keep two or three small fish for a traditional shore lunch, or they can bring them back to the lodge to be served at dinner. The lake is typical of the Canadian Shield and has plenty of structure that holds lots of fish. There are deep channels, bays, reefs and islands giving you endless areas to explore. Although this trip is self-guided, you will be provided with a guide for a couple of hours on your first day. He will give you an introduction to the boats and equipment, plus take you out on the lake to show you some good fishing spots to try for pike and lakers, and the walk-in walleye lakes too.

Located 60 air miles southeast of Yellowknife, the lodge can only be reached by charter float aircraft and is the only lodge on the lake. Far from the noise and bustle of any city, this fly-in lodge is the perfect fishing getaway. Summer in the NWT is an amazing time.  Bask in the midnight sun, catch a trophy fish, hike on some of the world’s oldest rock, or simply enjoy the beautiful nature and landscape that surrounds you. This seclusion ensures the environmental integrity of the lake and ample stocks of fish for the future. This also provides the ideal setting for a relaxed northern experience you won't soon forget. For the non-angler, there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy including canoeing, hiking, and kayaking.

Though remote, the lodge offers amenities such as gourmet meals, indoor washrooms and shower facilities, electricity, private lodge rooms or cabins, an outdoor hot tub, and a sauna.

There are five large guest rooms on the second floor of the main lodge, with access to shared shower and washrooms (no private washrooms in the rooms). Lodge rooms are dressed with down duvets and feature huge windows with expansive views. There are two viewing decks upstairs and an outdoor hot tub. The main floor serves as the lounge, with bar, dining room and library. The main floor also houses the kitchen and a small office, and his and hers showers and washrooms, shared with cabin guests. Unusually for such a remote facility, our washrooms not only have hot running water but also hotel-style toilets; you would hardly know they are the eco-friendly composting kind!

There are five log guest cabins to choose from - separated for privacy. Each has its own lake view, outside campfire pit and outdoor toilet close by. They all have electric lighting and power and feature a minimum of four beds with down duvets. Showers and bathrooms are a five-minute walk to the lodge.  All cabins are heated by a woodstove.  For those who like the easy life, but with the coziness of real fire, two of our cabins now have pellet stoves which make no demands on fire-lighting skills!

Some cabins have a private ensuite toilet facility and other cabins have access to the shared Aurora Comfort Station which is a heated toilet facility and wash basin with a skylight.

The lodge and all cabins enjoy free wireless internet access.  They are all non-smoking.

The lodge prides itself on its environmentally sensitive footprint. There are solar panels, wireless Internet, two high-efficiency wood-burning stoves and a remarkable waterless composting toilet system.

All meals are included and gourmet meals are prepared fresh each day.  Lodge food includes fresh baking, northern treats such as arctic char, caribou, muskox, lake trout, white fish, berry cake and bannock.

Our menus feature a tasty blend of Northern gourmet favorites. Our talented chef creates superb menus with fresh seasonal vegetables and a variety of fresh fish, beef, lamb and chicken to please every appetite. All dishes, from bread to desserts, are made on site. We also grow our own lettuce and other greens. If you have special menu requirements, please let us know in advance.

The lodge is a licensed facility, with a fully stocked bar and wine list. They maintain a selection of wines, beers, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
