Information

This 8-day Labrador mountain hiking tour in Canada begins in Montreal. From there, you take two flights to remote Arctic Quebec and Labrador wilderness, a pocket of the world that few will ever reach.

Discover the beautiful nature of the Arctic Cordillera as an expert guide leads you into Canada’s stunning Torngat Mountains and Labrador Fjords. On your hiking trip in Canada, spend 6 nights at a basic tent campsite as you make your way into the depths of the Hebron Fjord.

From your basecamp, hike a different trail each day to enjoy Canada’s diverse fjord nature and wildlife from different viewpoints. Be sure to bring your binoculars to watch caribou, snowy owls, wolves, and more iconic arctic wildlife in their natural habitats!

With rivers, waterfalls, gorges, snowy terrain, and ancient glacier valleys, the Labrador hiking trail’s natural landscapes will make memories that last a lifetime. Enjoy the extra perk of staying at a 5-star wooden lodge hotel surrounded by beautiful Arctic Quebec landscapes on the first and last day of the tour.

This hiking experience in Canada provides you with the unique opportunity to stay at a fixed overnight campsite, giving you the added benefit of not being weighed down by a heavy backpack each day.

Please note:

In Canada’s remote Quebec-Labrador regions, freshwater from rivers, lakes, and streams is safe to drink from. As a result, there is no reason to purify or buy bottled water for the trip.

Day 1 will begin in the beautiful city of Montreal, where you’ll take two flights from Montreal to Northern Quebec.

After a long day of travel, we’ll settle in for the night at a beautiful wooden lodge. Upon arrival, your travel guide will greet you with a welcome cocktail and “Golden Peninsula” appetizers. Enjoy your cocktail and snacks while your guide presents the program for the exciting days to follow.

Dinner and accommodation at the lodge will be the perfect way to end your long day of travel. The 5-star lodge offers comfortable rooms, private bathrooms, free spa access, and stunning views of the George River.

After breakfast, hop on a floatplane to head towards Hebron Fjord Lake — a mountain lake 7 km away from Labrador’s largest inland fjord. Full of mighty mountains, rugged canyons, and sharp fjord cliffs, the one-hour flight will be the perfect teaser of what’s to come.

The floatplane will descend at North Hebron Fjord near the access point to the North Crest Trail, where your multi-day hike in Canada will officially begin. Here, the group will pack all necessary camping equipment and hit the trail for a short 3 km hike towards your day’s final destination, Stream Lake.

With the help of an experienced guide, the group will begin to set up a basic tent campsite at Stream Lake. This campsite will serve as the base camp for the rest of the trip.

Day 3 of your Labrador hiking journey will be a walk towards the Peak of the Twin-Falls. This mountain peak won’t be unknown to you as it’s easily visible from the base camp.

As you hike towards Peak of the Twin-Falls, notice the landscapes turn more barren and rugged. When you reach the peak, the 360-degree panorama of the Torngat Mountains will take your breath away.

The majestic waterfall at the top of the Peak of the Twin-Falls will make the hike’s ascent worth your while. Enjoy the 940 m (3090 ft) tall waterfall cascading alongside a Torngat Mountain backdrop as you head back to basecamp for the night.

On the fourth day of your tour, discover the Hebron Fjord’s ancient glacial valley as you follow the cliff westward. At the top of the cliff, go back in time as you look at traces of ancient meandering riverbeds in the distance. More than 6000 years ago, these rivers were fed by the area’s melting glaciers.

Hebron Fjord’s glacial valley is also where you can catch sight of the tallest waterfall in the province. Be amazed as you look at the Hebron Waterfall standing over 720 m high — twice the height of the Eiffel Tower!

This point of the day is a great moment to look through your binoculars and check out the brilliant colors that cover the opposite valley wall. If you look closely, you may see black bears, caribou, and wolves roaming the bottom of the valley.

Our hike on day 5 will lead you to Canada’s most incredible natural landscapes. Walk to North Crest’s northern area to reach the tour’s main highlight — a 70-km view of both the Hebron Fjord and Labrador Sea. Look out towards stunning natural terrain unlike any other in Canada.

Here, you can have the thrilling experience of laying on your stomach on the edge of the cliff as you look 800 m down into the fjord. Only a few people will ever have the chance to look into the depths of our planet from this point of view!

Our day’s hike ends with a scenic walk back to the campsite, where we’ll eat and rest up for tomorrow’s adventure.

On the sixth day of your hiking trip in Canada, you’ll spend your day overlooking Hebron North Lake’s rugged natural wilderness. Weave your way through the area’s unspoiled nature as you try to spot fascinating Labrador wildlife.

As you hike between Hebron North Lake and the Inner Fjord, your expert guide will lead you to the best places to spot wildlife. Follow the winding valleys and rivers as you scan small patches of grass meadows filled with spectacular wildflowers. These grass meadows attract local animals such as small birds, snowy owls, ravens, and caribou, so keep your eyes peeled!

During the day, you’ll also walk through patches of sandy terrain. Though a stark contrast to the area’s grassy meadows, the sandy terrain is as equally filled with beautiful wildlife. Stay alert to foxes, wolves, and lemmings digging temporary shelters in the gravel sand.

On your last full day of the tour, you’ll have an early start as the base campsite is packed up and you prepare for the return floatplane ride. At midday, soak up your last moments at the Hebron Fjords while hiking 7 km towards the floatplane pickup location at Hebron North Lake.

In the afternoon, relax and unwind your body after your week filled with adventure. After returning to your 5-star night’s accommodation, warm up with a hot shower and a wood-fired cedar space. And, of course, there’s no better way to end a Labrador mountain hiking adventure than taking in the stunning George River view with a glass of wine or a cold beer in hand!

After a hearty breakfast at the lodge, your adventure hiking in Canada ends with your return jet flights from the lodge to Kuujjuaq and from Kuujjuq to Montreal.
